Prophets Empty
PostSubject: Prophets   Prophets Icon_minitimeThu Jul 26, 2007 4:10 pm

Christians believe a prophet is a person who speaks for God, in the name of God, and who carries God's message to others.
A minor prophet is one of the writings in the Twelve Prophets section of the Hebrew Bible, also known to Christians as the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. Minor prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.
A major prophet is a book in the Major Prophets section of the Christian Old Testament in the Bible. Major prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. The term "major" refers to their length, not their importance.
Prophets are usually old men with beards. Since 13. century they wear pointy hats (symbol of Jews). Their attribute is a scroll. (Evangelists and apostols hold codex)
Major prophets are standing alone, next to apostols or other figures from Old Testament. Four major prophets refer to four evangelists, being in combination with four biblical rivers, four sesaons or four cardinal virtues (Temperantia = temperance, Prudentia = prudence, Justitia = justice and Fortitudo = fortitude). In Sistine Chapel prophets are accompanied by Sibyls.

Well, to find out who is who is much more difficult. I will name prophet by prophet, starting with Habakkuk
